I.C.E. has done many things over the course of this very short year, all of which I disagree with. It seems the current administration is using them as lapdogs to sick on whoever they deem undesirable. The I.C.E. organization has been allowed to operate with seemingly no limitations or real meaningful oversight. I would like to use this opportunity to list out as plainly as possible their most recent abuses of power.
Starting first with the public execution of Renee Nicole Good. Renee was in a residential neighborhood dropping off her wife. She was attempting to make a left turn to leave. She waved on the passing cars to go around her and they did. The next car to show up just happened to be an I.C.E. truck. Instead of going around, all the officers stepped out of the vehicle and met her with immediate aggression. Pulling on her door and prompting her to “GET THE FUCK OUT”. One I.C.E. officer, that was already on the scene prior, started to make his way around and in front of Renee’s vehicle. As tensions began to rise Renee’s wife, who for the entirety of the interaction mocked the officers for stopping them without reason, prompted Renee to drive off, a decision that would prove fatal. Renee would attempt to leave the scene. She was shot three times to the face. She died immediately. The government would later paint Renee as a domestic terrorist who was interfering with an official I.C.E. investigation. They also claimed she attempted to run over the officer in front of her vehicle, all in an attempt to justify her murder. Even IF these allegations were true, which video evidence clearly shows none of these allegations hold water, where was the due process? Why didn’t they charge and arrest her? No matter how you choose to spin it, I.C.E. was judge, jury, and executioner.
Just nine days after the murder of Renee Good, which prompted city wide protests, a woman named Aliyah Rahman was on her way to a follow up appointment regarding a prior head injury. On her way she was met with an I.C.E. traffic stop. Not wanting to get any closer given the recent events Aliyah stayed parked and awaited instruction. I.C.E. labeled her an “agitator”. They broke her car windows, cut her seatbelt, and dragged her out of the car, hitting her head in the process. Aliyah was detained for no reason despite her efforts to explain herself. During her detainment she requested healthcare in regard to her head injury. She was denied multiple times. She passed out in I.C.E. custody and only after this fact was she brought to a hospital.
Recently a memo dated May of 2025 sent by acting director of I.C.E. , Todd Lyons, was leaked. The memo stated that I.C.E. will no longer depend on warrants signed by a judge to enter people’s homes and arrest them. Instead solely relying on administrative warrants. That is unconstitutional and goes against the standard procedure til now. This memo, which was sent in secret and to select personnel, is the driving force behind a series of I.C.E. crackdowns. One victim of these new unlawful procedures is Garrison Gibson, a Liberian immigrant. I.C.E. rammed Gibson’s door open with rifles aimed. There was no warrant present at the time of the raid, neither administrative or signed by a judge. A clear violation of our rights as private individuals.
Finally I would like to address the public execution of Alex Pretti. Alex, an ICU nurse for the VA hospital, was attending an anti I.C.E. protest when he noticed border patrol officers harassing a woman. Alex approached them with his phone in hand and put himself in between the officers and the woman, pushing the officers in the process. These six officers began to ruthlessly beat Alex down to the ground. During the beating they noticed Alex had holstered on him a gun. A gun which he was licensed to conceal carry. They disarmed him first, and then while he was still on the ground two officers fired multiple shots into his body. He died immediately. So to recap, they detained him and then disarmed him, and after he no longer posed any tangible threat they killed him. No attempt at an arrest was made throughout any of that.
This year has so far been marked by political unrest, violence against U.S. citizens, and unchecked power. The list of I.C.E.’s abuse goes on and it would be impossible to detail it all here. The current administration is doing little in the way of reigning in I.C.E. and our rights are in danger. Please if you see I.C.E. agents in your area alert your community. Protect each other!
